“Making beats” is the simple act of creating instrumental tracks, mostly for Hip Hop artists to rap over, but also for musicians to play or sing over.  Beat making and producing is one of the most lucrative jobs in the music business today.  Furthermore, on a personal level, it’s a wonderful skill and hobby for any fan of Hip Hop or EDM, because the technology exists so that the playing field is level.

Students will be introduced to production software and some of the necessary hardware used in producing original beats.  We will also explore the basics of producing—putting percussion into a sequence, creating a melody, adding effects, and manipulating sound and recordings to form a legitimate structured composition.
